Five big Canadian banks close in the red

Another close in the green (or black) on the TSX today. The exchange closed up 0.12% today at 13164.

The financial sector was the only one that closed in the red, giving an indication of the relevance of this sector on the market (that all other sectors could be up, yet the overall index was only up 0.12%).

Financials closed down 0.76% at 182.35.

TD and CM shed the most blood today, even though CM beat analysts estimate of 1.63 a share by 5 cents. TD missed estimates by 12%, citing higher expenses, consumer banking, and trading drops as the main reasons.

All tickers for the big five closed in the red today.
